There always seemed to be music playing in the house when I was growing
up. In the mornings I’d get ready for school to the sound of
the
latest pop chart countdown. At night I’d fall asleep to the
drifting slide of numerous foreign AM stations, fading and modulating
in that old medium wave kind of way that they did. After the horror of
school and before the boredom of bedtime, I’d be glued to the
television watching all manner of sci-fi shows: The Tomorrow People,
The Time Tunnel, Planet of the Apes, U.F.O. and Space 1999 to name but
a few – I took them all in.
It was inevitable that my interest in sc-fi gadgetry and my enjoyment
of music would merge. The catalyst was the synthesizer: the ultimate
gadget, what with its flashing lights, buttons, sliders and
knobs. It was a gadget with a real-world purpose. I
wanted
one, and I wanted one bad. I eventually got my hands on one (a Roland
SH-5, for all you trainspotters out there) when my parents relented and
gave in to my constant whining. This put an end to my interest in
playing trumpet in the school orchestra and in a local brass band. As
soon as I left the pointlessness of school behind me I ditched the
instrument and never looked back.
I can’t sing, and there was only so much instrumental music I
could stomach writing before I could no longer ignore the need to
actually say something. This is when I decided to get someone in to do
some vocal parts. I placed an advert in the local freebie and a few
people answered it.
Storm
was one of them, and we’ve been
working
together ever since.
Our music has evolved from the standard pop format into something that
could be considered more progressive and experimental in nature. On
this website you can listen to both our more commercial material and
some of the more challenging recordings. However, on the whole,
it’s the commercial stuff that we’ll be pushing
forward for
the time being.
We hope you enjoy both.
Thanks.
David Geiger.
