I met
D.G.
when I was about 19
– I had taken what the middle-class refer to as ‘a
gap
year’. One winter when it was freezing cold and had
been
snowing, I couldn’t get my car out of the garage as it was
too
icy. I ended up staying in the house and reading the local
paper. I saw an advert for a female vocalist who was required
to
sing all original pop material. I answered it, went for the
audition and passed. That is how I met D.G
.
For the first ten months or so, I learnt all of D.G’s songs
and
we recorded as much as possible. Then, the following summer,
I
left the area to go to university up in the Midlands. I think
that D.G. thought that would be it - the end of it all.
However,
I insisted that I would still learn his songs if he sent his tapes to
my halls of residence and then every month or two, I would drive down
for the weekend and we would record them. I started writing
my
own lyrics too – and sending them for D.G. to put to
music.
We did that for 4 whole years: three years at university and one year
when I was doing postgraduate work. Anyway, we have been
producing stuff for quite a while now.
Our music has changed a lot over the years – although I think
the
1980s influences are there, especially in some of our older
stuff. I know that D.G. is a big electronic music fan, and
was
into bands like OMD, Depeche Mode, Erasure etc – and I think
some
of that comes through in his earlier stuff. I am not sure who
we
sound like now though.
Thanks.
Storm Elliott.
